What is the difference between an area dosimeter and a calculation method?
For more accurate measurements, use an area dosimeter.
It is generally considered ideal to use DAP (dose area product) measured with an area dosimeter for DRL measurements. This is because it allows for the measurement of all incident radiation doses to the patient and, since measurements can be taken in real time, it is suitable for both conventional radiography and fluoroscopy.
While there are calculation methods based on specific formulas, these yield values that represent ideal conditions under set parameters; however, when various factors such as the generator’s actual output and anode angle are taken into account, significant discrepancies arise compared to actual measurements.
Since DRLs are used for international comparisons, measurements must be taken accurately.
